Ibiza's Beaches

Most people come to Ibiza primarily for its beautiful Mediterranean beaches. With over 80 on offer, the coast is full of choice when it comes to determining ibiza-weatherwhere to sunbathe. Whether you are looking for a great place to indulge in some water sports, a shallow beach for the kids, or a hotspot for checking out the local talent; Ibiza’s beaches are sure not to disappoint.
With some of the cleanest beaches in the Mediterranean, each year over a dozen of Ibiza’s beaches are awarded blue flags. Development along the coast and the sheer number of tourists at some of the resorts during the high season can sometimes detract from the beauty of Ibiza’s beaches; however, the nearest secluded cove or deserted stretch is never far away, especially during the low season when some of the beaches are unrecognizable as the sea of people they become in the summer.

Like the bars and clubs in Ibiza, each beach attracts a certain kind of crowd and boasts its own atmosphere. On an island where it takes no more than an hour to get to any point, it’s best to check out a few different beaches during your stay. If you get lazy and only frequent the beach closest to your hotel, you’ll miss out on some of the best of what Ibiza has to offer. Holidays to Majorca promise to offer plenty of fun activities both day and night.

ibiza-resortsBeach hopping is easy with the island’s excellent ferry services that can take you from one resort to another, and there are some good inland road routes connecting the bays. There are usually a few beaches within easy walking distance of each resort.

The majority of Ibiza’s beaches are clustered around the eastern and southern coasts, with the western coast having the fewest beaches. There are so many good choices of beaches on the island that the ones listed below are merely a selection of what’s on offer.

Beaches in the north: Cala de Benirra is popular with families and the island’s hippy community, who offer nightly drum performances at sunset; Cala de Portinatx boasts crystal clear waters and the private nearby bay of Cala Xarraca; Agua Blanca is a naturists’ beach surrounded by steep cliffs; and Cala de San Vincente is a hill enclosed bay with a stretch of beachside hotels.

Beaches in the east: Playa des Canar is a family friendly beach with calm waters and host to the island’s famous Hippy Market held every Wednesday; Talamanca is good for windsurfing; Playa den Bossa is the island’s longest beach and home to Bora Bora; Cala Llonga is a picturesque bay surrounded by pine-forested hills.

Beaches in the south: Figueretas is an urban beach conveniently close to Ibiza Town; Playa des Cavallet is a popular nudist beach and favourite among the gay community; Playa das Salinas is one of the best beaches on the island, with long sandy stretches that attract a trendy clientele; Cala Jondal is a quiet place to sunbathe; Cala d’Hort is a tranquil beach with nice views of Es Vedru Island.

Beaches in the west: Cala Salada has clear waters good for snorkelling and Cala Conta offers water sports and snorkelling.
