Activities and Sport

Whenever anyone thinks of things to do on Ibiza, it's usually happening after dark - which more or less precludes doing anything during the days.  However, there are other things to do, places to go, people to meet and great times to be had.
For many, Ibiza boosts some of the best beaches in the Balearics. Some are inaccessible without the luxury yacht, others are difficult to find without a car, but hey, this is an island so there are still plenty more to choose from and most of those listed can be reached on public transport. Public transport here includes little ferries that run along large sections of the coast dropping people off to various beaches and then collecting them again at sunset. Everybody wants to benefit from a budget holiday and if you book early you can.

Below is a sample of some of the activities you can find on the island.

The Famous Hippy MarketIbiza Hippy Market

Located in Es Cana, the famous Hippy Market has been a weekly highlight in Ibiza since the early 1970's.  At the market you can pick up hand made leather moccasins, trinkets, jewelry, and an enormous range of souvenirs as a reminder of your holiday in Ibiza. Look out for the hippies with their amazing tales of old Ibiza.

Diving

There are a number of dive centres across the island.  Swimming in the Mediterranean is a fabulous experience, snorkeling opens your eyes to a whoIbiza Divingle new world beneath the surface of this beautiful clear sea, but diving around the coast of a clean island like Ibiza is almost too much for the senses.

Ibiza offers a fascinating adventure for everyone, regardless of age or experience. The conditions are perfect for beginners as the Mediterranean is really nothing more than an oversized pond, but the treasures that it holds include many challenging dives for advanced divers, some of which are breathtaking even to the most experienced veterans of the sport.

Surfing on Fuerteventura

Bobbing in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the northwest coast of Africa, is Spain’s Fuerteventura.  Belonging to the group of islands known as the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura is a volcanic island scattered with tourist resorts as well as traditional, untouched towns and villages.  The island’s name itself is loosely translated as “loose winds”, with the windy weather making it a great place for water based outdoor activity holidays.
Surfers are especially well catered for on Fuerteventura. During both the summer and the winter, the winds and swells of the Atlantic Ocean result in perfect conditions for surfers.  There are many spots that are recommended, with most experts suggesting the autumn and winter for the best conditions.  Visitors can still enjoy pleasant weather during this time.

The changeable winds and unlevel sea beds of the north and northwest coast provide great conditions for experienced surfers.  A lot of this coastline is not very busy in terms of tourism, leaving surfers plenty of room to catch the best waves.  It is a great place for both beginners as well as the more experienced, with some fantastic areas for the daring.

There are a number of positive points when it comes to taking a surfing holiday in Fuerteventura. Firstly, it is relatively inexpensive to travel to, and even more so out of season when the surf is still good.  There are many spots that are unused, and therefore not crowded, and the seabed is not very often flat, with reefs and strong waves.
